How to use CBD oil for pain

CBD oil has been gaining popularity in recent years as a miracle treatment for a whole host of health complaints, ranging from relieving anxiety and depression to epileptic seizures and even acne.

The benefits of CBD are far-reaching as around 6 million adults in the UK have tried CBD for all sorts of health reasons.

I’ve shared lists of the benefits of CBD on this blog previously, as well as how I use it myself to combat depression and in massage oil to soothe tired muscles.

However, an area I’d like to explore is how to use CBD oil for pain, one of its most popular uses.

What is CBD oil?

In case you haven’t yet come across CBD oil, I will attempt to explain what CBD is as simply as I can.

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It’s a type of cannabinoid which is extracted from the cannabis plant. Cannabis plants, otherwise known as marijuana, contain many different chemicals, that are naturally present, called cannabinoids.

Even though CBD comes from the cannabis plant, it will not get you high. THC is a cannabinoid in cannabis that has psychoactive properties.

CBD oils sold in the UK must contain no THC or the levels must be trace levels that are below a very low level.

CBD is legal in the UK however, but if you are in a different country, do check your own country’s laws before purchasing.

Which types of pain can CBD oil relieve?

CBD can be used as a natural remedy to relieve and reduce pain caused by several different illnesses and diseases.

Whilst over-the-counter medicines are often prescribed for pain relief, some people prefer to try alternative therapy or a natural remedy.

CBD has been used as an effective pain treatment for:

  • Chronic pain
  • Intractable pain
  • Arthritis
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Back pain
  • Pain caused by cancer
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • IBS
  • Migraines
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Joint disorders

It may also be an effective pain relief for many other causes of pain.

How does CBD oil stop pain?

CBD has anti-inflammatory properties which make it effective in reducing swelling and inflammation, for example in joints to relieve the pain of arthritis.

By reducing the inflammation, the pain caused by this inflammation is reduced.

CBD is also a natural sleep aid, promoting a sounder night’s sleep. Helping a person to sleep better will in turn stop the disruption of sleep caused by pain during the night.

Studies are still ongoing into how CBD oil can treat pain, but it’s thought the endocannabinoid system influences how we experience pain.

CBD can improve our mood too.

Overall, regarding pain management, CBD appears to have a holistic effect on pain: improving mood, improving sleep, reducing inflammation and allowing us to manage pain better.

How to choose a CBD company

Due to its increased popularity, you can easily buy CBD online or in health food stores. When choosing a brand it’s important to check their credentials and look for regular lab testing results to ensure the products contain the CBD they claim.

Numerous CBD companies are offering their own private label CBD oil for sale, so how do you know which is best to buy? To choose a reputable CBD company, it is important to understand the different types of CBD products and their benefits. The first step is to decide what you need. Are you looking for a product that will help with anxiety, depression, or insomnia? Do you want something that will help with pain or inflammation? Do you want a product that will help with anxiety but has other benefits like improving sleep quality?

The second step is to start your research by looking at reviews on the company’s website. Choosing a CBD company is not always easy. There are many factors to consider such as the quality of the product, price, and customer service. The following list will help you find the best CBD company for you.

-The best CBD company should have a wide variety of products with different concentrations and delivery methods to suit your needs. They should also have a range of prices so that you can find something that fits your budget.

-A good CBD company will be transparent about their products and their manufacturing process so you know what you’re getting into when buying from them.

-A great CBD company should also offer excellent customer service so if anything goes wrong or you have any questions they are there to help out.

How to take CBD oil for pain

Whilst there are a lot of studies into the effects of CBD oil for pain, there is also a lot of anecdotal evidence. There is not a one size fits all answer when it comes to taking CBD oil for pain.

There are various strengths and different ways to take CBD oil. What works for one person may not work for another.

Here are some of the ways you can take CBD oil for pain:

Orally

CBD can be taken orally by a number of methods. The taste of the drops is not pleasant for some people, though in my experience I have become used to the taste.

Here are several ways you can take CBD by mouth:

  • CBD drops
  • CBD spray
  • CBD capsules
  • CBD gummies
  • CBD drinks

Topically

Another way to use CBD is to apply it directly to the area of pain on the skin. This method may take longer for the CBD to take effect, but it has the added benefit of the soothing caused by massage.

You can apply CBD topically using the following products:

  • CBD cream
  • CBD gel
  • CBD spray
  • CBD massage oil

CBD oil can take time to work

It can take some trial and error to find the right type of CBD product for your pain relief and the right dosage.

CBD can also take time to work, so don’t expect instant results. Many people need to build up the levels of CBD in their system through daily dosage.
