5 tricks to help you stick to your new health routine

We all want to look after our health, but that’s often easier said than done. Everybody knows that eating well and exercising regularly is important, but it’s tough to keep up with a new health routine.

Most people start out with the best intentions but after a while, they lose motivation and fall into bad habits again.

Eventually, many people decide that they just can’t do it and they give up, but before you throw in the towel, try some of these simple tricks to help you keep up with your health routine.

Remind yourself of the benefits

When you are feeling a bit tired and you don’t really want to do that workout that you had planned, it’s easy to come up with some excuses and talk yourself out of it.

But when you feel like this, it’s important to remind yourself of why exercise is so important. Think about all of the health issues that can be avoided, the stress relief benefits, and the improved sleep patterns.

When you remind yourself of the benefits, you will find it a lot harder to talk yourself out of doing a workout.

Start slowly

When people are starting a new exercise routine or trying out a new diet, they often throw themselves in at the deep end and this makes it so much harder.

For example, if you say that you’re immediately going to cut out all unhealthy foods, the drastic change will be hard to adapt to and you will find it tough to resist your cravings.

However, if you gradually cut back on snacks and replace them with healthy alternatives, you will find it easier to adjust and you will be more likely to stick with it long term.

For some people, a diet supplement can help with that initial push to help motivate you and keep focus on your diet goals. Diet supplements are available at most reputable online pharmacies.

A natural supplement such as green tea or fenugreek can help to suppress appetite and curb those cravings.

Starting slowly is also true for exercise.  If you suddenly decide that you’re going to run 5k when you haven’t done any exercise at all for a long time, you will struggle.

You’ll be exhausted and your muscles will be sore, and you may even injure yourself. This will put you off and you won’t want to work out again.

Why not run 1k the first time and do that until you are comfortable and then gradually build up the distance? You’ll find it a lot more manageable this way.

It’s important that you are realistic about your own schedule as well. Many people try to commit to working out 5 days a week and then they are hard on themselves when they can’t keep it up.

It’s better to be realistic and only work out a few times a week if that’s all you can manage.

Get a personal trainer

Having somebody else there to motivate you is one of the best ways to keep up with your workouts, which is why it’s always a good idea to hire a personal trainer.

If you hire somebody like Andy Griffiths Expert PT, he can create a custom fitness and nutrition program for you to follow. When you book sessions in with a personal trainer, you can’t convince yourself to skip them, and you will also see much better results when working with a professional, and that helps with motivation.

A personal trainer will also ensure that you are doing exercises correctly so you can avoid injury.

Find a workout partner

If you don’t want to hire a personal trainer, you should at least consider finding a workout partner. You will be less likely to skip a workout if a friend is relying on you, and having somebody else there to motivate you helps you push yourself harder and get more out of your workout sessions.

Exercising with a friend also makes it a social activity, so it is more fun and it doesn’t feel like a chore.

Track your progress

Tracking your progress is so important if you want to keep up with a new health routine. If you can see the results of all of your hard work in a tangible way, it will motivate you to keep pushing yourself.

Weighing yourself to see if you are losing weight is a good start, but you should also start tracking your workouts. There are some great running apps and you can get fitness trackers that give you a huge amount of information about your workouts.

If you go running on a regular basis, for example, you can see whether you are getting faster and how much your distance has increased.

Keeping up with a new health routine is tough, but if you use these simple tricks, you can find your motivation.
