Simple health tips for everyday living

When it comes to taking care of ourselves we all know that the basics are there for us to follow, we all know the theory, and we have been taught it since we were very small children.

But sometimes we forget.  Life gets busy, bad habits form and sometimes we need a reminder of what we need to do to make sure that we stay fit and healthy.

The very basic health tips we sometimes forget

Below are very simple tips, but things we often mean to do and simply don’t!  There are ways in which you can incorporate them into your life quickly and easily, without forgetting about it in the future.

We’re all usually guilty of not getting enough of one or more of these things at some point in our lives.  Check out the tips below to easily ensure you stop forgetting and make these things a habit!

Simple health tips for everyday living

Water

We all know we should drink a lot of water each day, but how many of us really drink the right amount?  Dehydration can cause so many complaints such as headaches and urine infections, so it’s vital to drink enough.

Of course, simple hydration doesn’t guarantee you’ll avoid UTIs. If you find you’re still experiencing issues you may need a urinary alkaliniser, along with hydration, to help get you back on-track. Your pharmacist will be able to recommend something if you do have a UTI, but being sure to stay hydrated can often be a great way to prevent any problems.

Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated means you can work at your peak performance levels. Studies have shown that your brain needs to be hydrated for it to work well.  So drink up to stay motivated and focussed too.  Being tired and sleepy can also be a sign of dehydration!

If you’re not good at remembering to drink enough water then find a way to remember!  Making sure that you have a timer or even a highly technical water bottle that will remind you when you need to drink next, is going to help you stay on track.

You can become dehydrated without even thinking about it, and do damage to yourself, so making sure that you are drinking enough fluids is essential, whether you do exercise or not.  Here are 7 ways to improve the taste of your water.

Exercise

Exercise is essential for your cardiovascular health, and your overall fitness and well-being. There is a large number of endorphins released when you are exercising, which improves our mood drastically.

It can be hard for people to stay motivated to exercise, so it’s good to find a routine or sport that you love.  If you are committed to a sport or an activity, you may find it much easier than if you are trying to motivate yourself to get to the gym.

It takes 21 days for you to form a habit. So don’t try a class or exercise once and give up if you don’t enjoy it.  No one enjoys exercise at first as it seems hard and like a chore.  It takes a while to get your fitness up so that it’s easier and more enjoyable. So make sure that you are forming habits that are positive when it comes to exercise.  Go in with a positive mind-set and don’t be afraid to try a few different classes or sports until you find what works for you.

The best thing is to form a habit and enjoy exercise.  Think of all the good it does to you and also take pleasure in all the extra energy it gives you and improved sleep!

Sleep

Many of us think we can run on less sleep than we actually do. Unfortunately, many of us are walking around quite tired at times and even waking up tired which is not ideal.  We should wake up feeling well rested and eager for the day ahead.

There is a massive link between sleep and good health so it’s vital we get enough shut-eye every night.  Not only do we need a lot of sleep, but we more importantly need high-quality sleep.  It’s important to invest in a good mattress that is right for your sleeping position and a sturdy bed frame.  Having a comfortable night’s sleep can also prevent any health problems like back pain from an unsuitable bed.

A proper night’s sleep can ensure our mental health stays on track, prevents heart problems, helps us maintain a healthy weight, allows muscles and our cells to repair themselves and even ensures our immune system functions correctly.  It also makes us feel and look so much better!

Eat plenty of fruits and veggies

It’s always alarming when you read statistics of how little people get their 5-a-day.  That’s a basic recommendation too.  I really think we need 10 fruits and vegetables a day!

Some quotes I remember to help me stay on track with healthy eating are:

  • “The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.”- Ann Wigmore
  • “Every time you eat or drink, you are either feeding disease or fighting it.” – Heather Morgan
  • “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”-Hippocrates
  • “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” – Ayurvedic philosophy

Self-care when it comes to healthy living is so important.  Nobody else is going to do it for you, so you need to get used to creating new healthy habits for yourself so you don’t forget these basic health tips.  Once you get on track with the above tips you’ll start feeling so much better.
