CBD is a supplement I have been using daily since the end of October 2019, so over six months now, to ease symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. I mainly suffer with these symptoms throughout the winter months when they amplify due to Seasonal Affective Disorder.
For my husband Ben I was a misery to be around in the winter months. It seemed my symptoms were getting worse each year. Wanting to find a natural solution I had tried being outdoors more in the winter months for more natural light and supplementing with vitamin D religiously every day for a whole year, but these didn’t do anything to improve my symptoms. In fact, they were getting worse each year.
Last year I decided to give CBD oil a go to see if it could help. I was already impressed with its many benefits, having watched a docu-series called The Sacred Plant and learning of it’s incredible pain relieving properties through reading numerous health articles.
Could CBD oil help with mental health?
I then stumbled across an article about using CBD oil to relieve stress, anxiety and depression and my curiosity piqued.
Could CBD be the miracle cure to my winter lows, high stress levels and mood swings?
Experts have found that CBD can help to improve your mood from the inside out. By helping your body to reach a state of internal balance you can deal better with external stressors. It’s also possible that CBD can alter serotonin levels to improve our mood.
I started taking CBD oil six months ago on a daily basis and I haven’t looked back!
This past winter has been my best yet with regards to my mental health for a long time. The only difference to my routine I have made is to take CBD oil daily, so it must be having an effect. Otherwise it’s a huge coincidence!
Ben, my husband, has noticed a considerable difference. As far as he’s concerned I have been totally normal this winter just gone and nothing like the previous years.
Personally, I find it to have a calming effect. I feel less stressed and I feel more mellow and relaxed upon taking the cannabis oil each morning. It’s not totally eliminated stress by any means – I am a mum to two! But, overall I feel happier, calmer, less anxious and I haven’t sunk into a depression this winter at all like I usually do.
It could be a placebo effect, but there are now numerous scientific studies documenting the many health benefits of CBD oil. There are also more and more testimonies from those who take it, swearing that it is benefiting their lives and they can’t be without it.
It’s not just the latest health supplement fad, but a natural plant based substance that has really medicinal value to improve the quality of people’s lives.
In this article I will explain what CBD and CBG is, along with a review of Herts Hemp cannabis oil.
What is CBD?
CBD is short for cannabidiol. It’s a cannabinoid from the cannabis plant.
The cannabis has over 100 types of cannabinoid and CBD is just one of them.
Another cannabinoid that you might be more familiar with is THC. THC is a psychoactive compound which makes people high, usually by smoking marijuana. However, CBD is not psychoactive.
When people hear cannabis they might immediately think of ‘getting high’, but that’s only caused by the THC in the plant. Cannabis actually has many other uses!
What does taking CBD do?
CBD works with our bodies to maintain homeostasis. We all have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that the cannabinoids work with to regulate this internal balance.
The health benefits include:
- Pain relief
- Stress & anxiety relief
- Prevention or easing of seizures in some types of epilepsy
- Reduced inflammation
- Improved skin
- Better sleep quality

What is CBG?
I’ll be honest. CBG is a new one to me! I knew there were numerous cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, but CBD has been the one that’s so far had all the hype and got the nation excited.
It now looks like the benefits of another cannabinoid called CBG are being realised and CBG oils are now on the market.
CBG stands for cannabigerol.
Cannabigerol is the stem cell of CBD and all the other cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. This means CBD starts its life as CBG!
What does taking CBG do?
CBG is still undergoing much research, but it is showing many promising health benefits. Here are some of the potential benefits of CBG from scientific studies:
- Could relieve symptoms of patients with inflammatory bowel disease
- May treat eye conditions such as glaucoma
- Can help treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s Disease
- Inhibits the growth of colon cancer cells
- Can increase appetite
- May help regulate mood thanks to its ability to boost anandamide otherwise known as the ‘bliss molecule’
Herts Hemp review
Due to the anxiety, stress and relieving properties I had already experienced from CBD oil and the potential mood boosting appeal of CBG oil, I agreed to try some cannabis oils from Herts Hemp.
They kindly sent me 18% CBD oil and 5% CBG oil to try. I have been taking five drops of each oil for nine days now and I’m very happy with their products.
Firstly, the products arrived well presented in branded tissue paper and colourful boxes with a personalised letter to myself. The packing process and personal touch was thoughtful and indicative of a brand that cares.
The cannabis oils came in tinctures with a dropper to administer. If you dislike the taste of the oils then you can choose capsules instead which you don’t need to taste!
Personally, I don’t mind the taste of the CBD or CBG drops. They are quite strong, but I’ve got used to it and in some ways I even crave the taste of them in the morning. It’s as though my body is used to them now and requires them each morning!
I’ve been very happy with the effects of the oils and Herts Hemp have many qualities that are important when choosing to buy a CBD oil for yourself.
Herts Hemp benefits
Not all CBD oils are created equal, so it’s vital to shop for high quality products that align with your values when choosing the right CBD oil for you.
Here are some reasons I am impressed with the Herts Hemp CBD range:
- Lab testing. Herts Hemp offer a trustworthy product as they share their lab test results on their website so you can be sure of the contents of the oils.
- 100% organic. The last thing anyone needs is nasty pesticides in their bodies, so it’s always great to see an organic brand of CBD oil. Herts Hemp products are made from European grown hemp (Cannabis Sativa).
- GMO free. Also, noone wants genetically modified food messing up their bodies! The cannabis used is organically grown and GMO free. The cannabinoids are mixed with high quality, cold pressed organic hemp seed oil.
- Full spectrum. It’s possible to buy CBD isolate from some companies, but it’s widely accepted that full spectrum CBD is more beneficial. This means the extract contains other compounds that are naturally present in the cannabis plant such as other cannabinoids. Herts Hemp oils are full spectrum.
- Vegan. Most CBD oils should be vegan anyway as it’s a plant based product, but it’s nice to have clear clarification on the products. On a side note – do check CBD capsules if you’re vegan as not all capsule material is always vegan. Herts Hemp capsules are vegan.
Where can I get Herts Hemp CBD oil?
You can buy their products directly from their own website or they are stocked in many health food stores.
